'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rotherham United 1 Barnsley 0

Rotherham United grabbed a late winner to take the pre-season pride back to their new home at the weekend. The Tykes found the Miller's keeper in defiant form, with chances going begging right from the off.

First to test Steven Cann in the Miller's goal was Rob Kozluk with a low shot from 20 yards. Brian Howard then brough a smart save from Cann with a curling free kick that look bound for the top corner.

The Millers hit back through Mark Hudson who pounced on a mistake from Dennis Souza but his shot hit Darren Moore to go wide of the goal.

Kayode Odejayi had the best chance after just 12 minutes when he found himself one on one with the Millers' keeper thanks to a superb through ball from Macken. Odejayi's effort was saved by a good stop from Cann.

After Stephen Foster had forced another good save from Cann from a Jacob Butterfield corner, Odejayi had another chance to net the opener, but his header went just wide.

The big Nigerian turned provider on 30 minutes as he layed a pass to El Haimour who snapped a shot over the bar from the edge of the box.

Luke Steele was eventually called into action minutes later to make a fine save from Hudson and Macken flashed a volley across goal just before half time.

Five minutes into the second half Odejayi barged his way through the Miller's back line but couldn't manage to get a shot off, instead winning a corner.

Jon Macken sent another header towards goal only for it to be saved by Cann, before being replaced by Jamil Adam. The introduction of Devaney brought more life to the Barnsley wing after El Haimour had run the Millers' defence ragged.

It was the Millers however who took the lead on 84 minutes through substitute Alex Rhodes who was on hand 6 yards from goal to tap in a low cross from the wing.

The Tykes pressed for an equaliser with Souza and Adam going close but Steven Can was on hand to deny them.

Barnsley: Steele, Foster (Van Homoet 79), Souza, Moore, Kozluk, Campbell-Ryce, Howard, Butterfield, El Haimour (Devaney 74), Macken (Adam 68), Odejayi.

Subs not used: Letheren, Johnson, Heslop, Atkinson, Hunt.
