Moore the merrier for Barnsley

Barnsley have captured Derby County defender Darren Moore on a free transfer.

The 34 year old has put pen to paper on a two year contract at Oakwell.

With former Barnsley loanee Lewin Nyatanga opting to stay at Pride Park, Red`s boss Simon Davey has chosen experience and power in Moore.

Simon Davey gave his thoughts of his new signing to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"We have been looking to increase competition at the back and have brought in a player with a proven pedigree. Darren has won promotion four times from the Championship during his career and we are delighted to have persuaded him to join up despite interest from a lot of clubs"

Darren is up against some tough competition with Stephen Foster and Dennis Souza who were both solid in the heart of the Tyke`s defence last season.

"He will play a big part in our squad next season both on and off the pitch and his experience will be a massive bonus for us as we head into the new season".

Despite his age, Darren definitely will bring power and presence to the side, even if thrown on in the last twenty minutes to help defend a game. Standing at 6ft 2" and weighing over 15 stone, Moore could prove useful in the Tyke`s Championship campaign.

This one surprised a lot of people - though why many thought he would opt for Bradford id a strange one.

He's not getting any younger and his mobility isn't the greatest.
