Barnsley to bid for O`Brien?
Sources in Scotland claim that Barnsley are in a race to sign Irish international Alan O`Brien from Hibernian.
The left-sided midfielder joined Hibs from Newcastle Utd in the summer of 2007 after the Scottish Premier League Club paid the Magpies around £350,000 in compensation for the speedy winger.
Twenty three year old O`Brien has five Irish caps to his name and seems a reasonable target for the reds after club owner Patrick Cryne claimed the tykes need to invest in a 'natural left-sided midfielder`.
However it seems that the reds have stiff competition in the race to sign O`Brien as newly promoted Swansea City appear to be interested.
One thing is for sure that Hibs will not let O`Brien leave Easter road without a hefty price being agreed, although the SPL club may be willing to let O`Brien leave after he was allowed to move to Crewe on loan back in January but the deal never came off.
