'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Beautiful Barnsley

Beautiful Barnsley

With Barnsley`s recent 'Stringer Together` campaign, it really has been touching to hear and see just how a community can be brought together through football.

Forget multimillion pound takeovers, 45 quid per game tickets and prima donnas earning ludicrous amounts of money a week - home is where the heart is and the heart of Barnsley lays at Oakwell.

Season ticket prices have been reduced, with under 11`s eligible to watch the reds free provided they`re accompanied by a paying adult.

Times have been hard over the past six years but the reds have really shown some ambition and spirit over recent seasons and Patrick Cryne`s 'Stronger Together` initiative really has boosted the morale of the supporters, showing that the club do care about their fans.

Barnsley`s trip to Wembley proved that the fan base has got real potential, around 34,000 fans made the trip to north London to cheer on the Tykes in the FA Cup Semi Final.

Oakwell was also packed out in the previous round against Chelsea; with John Motson claming he has never seen anything like it when the town gets behind the team.

The only way from here is surely up, if attendances improve and the money from last season`s cup run is spent on a goalscorer, surely the reds will be aiming for the top half of the table and after that…who knows?

Good to see another club dropping prices and encouraging children. In these days of greed it is very refreshing to see clubs rewarding the fans.
