Tykes Deserve European Final Spot?

As Avram Grant marches his men to the fortress of Anfield tonight, the Chelsea boss will be hoping his team leave Merseyside with a precious away goal. Just how easy is it to score at Anfield? Just ask Stephen Foster and Brian Howard.

Liverpool take on Chelsea this evening in a mouth watering Champions League semi final first leg with the two teams having just about recovered from their shock exits from the FA Cup at the expense of Barnsley.

Although the reds have been compared to Inter Milan in the past, does this actually mean that because Barnsley have more than matched both Liverpool and Chelsea (who are of course both semi finalists) that they deserve a place in the Champions League final? Should the tykes be able to test themselves against either Barcelona or Manchester United in May?

Either way, Barnsley have proved that you can never be sure of anything in football. As the red`s league position suggests, the trapdoor to League 1 is still well and truly open to a number of teams in the Championship. With a big game against Charlton coming up on Saturday, reds boss Simon Davey will most likely be watching tonight`s Champions League match with a cheeky smile on his face, knowing that his side have triumphed against them both in a truly historic FA Cu campaign.
