Tykes topple Lilywhites

Barnsley notched up their third away league win after seeing off Preston at Deepdale this afternoon.

Backed by a very vocal away following, Barnsley boss Simon Davey kept the same starting line-up that saw off Watford in midweek.

Although Barnsley struggled to cause Preston a real threat in the opening stages, Diego León grabbed his deserved first goal for the Tykes with a world class free kick from 30 yards just after the half hour mark.

Preston will feel aggrieved not to have executed some of their many chances and were punished when Campbell-ryce was tripped in the lilywhites` box on 55 minutes. Up stepped former Preston favourite Jon Macken who coolly sent Lonergan the wrong way causing the following supporters to go barmy.

A Barnsley player scored again ten minutes later…but at the wrong end. Stephen Foster`s stray header confused Luke Steele to reduce the red`s lead.

If the result was to reflect the support from the travelling tykes, justice was done, as the 'FA Cup hangover` seemed nonexistent with the Barnsley fans dancing in jubilation throughout the entire match.

So Barnsley take the three points having completed their second double of the season. Next up is Hull City, where it would be nice to see some of the 34,000 'fans` who were at Wembley.

Come on you reds.
