'If It's Football, It's Vital'

What went wrong for Miguel?

When Barnsley had completed the signing of Peruvian international Miguel Mostto in July 2007, many fans were in hope and expectation of the 29 year old.

Splashing out a reported £400,000, who could blame the reds faithful for being in hope that Mostto would fire their team higher up the league than the previous season? After all, his goal scoring record in Peru is quite impressive, especially during his time at Peru`s top league side, Cienciano.
The hit-man bagged 59 goals in 134 games, topping the Peruvian scoring charts at the end of both the `05 and `06 season.

Things never really got going for Miguel, although in fairness the Peruvian had been separated from his family for around 4 months, and the poor lad couldn`t speak any English. However, they say football is a universal language and although Miguel showed promise in terms of movement and determination, there were no goals to go with his effort.

Simon Davey knew that goals were lacking, and had since brought in Jon Macken and Daniel Nardiello to bolster the Tyke's attack.

At the end of the day, a striker`s job is to score goals, that`s why Barnsley paid so much money but got barely anything in return.

The Peruvian has since moved back to Peru, joining Coronel Bolognesi FC on loan.
