The Barnsley Beauties
Barnsley`s victory over Liverpool at Anfield still hasn`t sunk in; never mind knocking the Cup holders Chelsea out of the quarter finals.
This result has gone down into the history books and Kayode Odejayi is the name to be remembered.
A crowd of over 22,000 witnessed 90 minutes of sheer grit and determination from the Barnsley boys, who proved that on the day anyone can be beaten, even if you are earning £150,000 a week you can still be brought back down to earth with a big bang.
Odejayi hadn`t scored since September until he out jumped Carlo Cudicini in the 67th minute to head home Martin Devaney`s splendid cross. Oakwell had never seen anything like it since beating Man Utd in the same competition over ten years ago.
Barnsley are going to Wembley. That`s a fact. With the 'big four` out of the competition, the F.A. Cup is well and truly wide open.
Many T.V pundits have heaped praise onto the Reds and it certainly is duly deserved.
Simon Davey will say the players deserve it, but credit where credit`s due; the Tykes boss tactically outclassed Avram Grant on the day and proved that magic does indeed still exist in the world`s oldest football Cup competition.
